چکیده

We present an algorithm for Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) on multi-dimensional time series (MDDTW). The algorithm utilises all dimensions to find the best synchronisation. It is compared to ordinary DTW, where a single dimension is used for aligning the series. Both one-dimensional and multidimensional DTW are also tested when derivatives instead of feature values are used for calculating the warp. MD-DTW performed best in finding a known ground truth under noisy conditions. The algorithms were also used to perform simple classification of a set of 121 gestures. MD-DTW performed as well as or better than any single dimension in all tasks. In general, DTW on feature derivatives gave better results than DTW on feature values.

Generalizing Dynamic Time Warping to the Multi- Dimensional Case Requires an Adaptive Approach

In recent years Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) has emerged as the distance measure of choice for virtually all time series data mining applications. For example, virtually all applications that process data from wearable devices use DTW as a core sub-routine. This is the result of significant progress in improving DTW’s efficiency, together with multiple empirical studies showing that DTW-based cla...

Dynamic Gesture Recognition with a Terahertz Radar Based on Range Profile Sequences and Doppler Signatures

The frequency of terahertz radar ranges from 0.1 THz to 10 THz, which is higher than that of microwaves. Multi-modal signals, including high-resolution range profile (HRRP) and Doppler signatures, can be acquired by the terahertz radar system. These two kinds of information are commonly used in automatic target recognition; however, dynamic gesture recognition is rarely discussed in the teraher...

Multi-layered Gesture Recognition with Kinect

This paper proposes a novel multi-layered gesture recognition method with Kinect. We explore the essential linguistic characters of gestures: the components concurrent character and the sequential organization character, in a multi-layered framework, which extracts features from both the segmented semantic units and the whole gesture sequence and then sequentially classifies the motion, locatio...

Combined Dynamic Time Warping with Multiple Sensors for 3D Gesture Recognition

Cyber-physical systems, which closely integrate physical systems and humans, can be applied to a wider range of applications through user movement analysis. In three-dimensional (3D) gesture recognition, multiple sensors are required to recognize various natural gestures. Several studies have been undertaken in the field of gesture recognition; however, gesture recognition was conducted based o...

A Tennis Training Application Using 3D Gesture Recognition

This paper presents a serious game system which recognizes user movements by means of the Wiimote device with accelerometer technology. Recognizing a new gesture involves normalization of Wiimote data and searching in a gesture templates database. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) comparison algorithm is used as a correlation function to compare the new gesture with every template. Based on prior trai...
